I’m Laurie DeSalvo, CFA, CPRW – a.k.a. The Financial Recruiter. As a headhunter by trade, I work with financial career professionals to find, land, and thrive in their ideal next career opportunity.

In fact, that’s why I’m here.

Because when I worked as a financial professional, I couldn’t find a financial recruiter who had the time, expertise, or inclination to offer me the advice I craved. I was left to tread water in the deep end and find my own way to the side of the pool.

So, I spent about 10 years navigating my own professional career progression without much information or advice on how to get from point A to B…or C or D.

The Financial Recruiter goes From Wall Street to Main Street

My career took me from a finance and economics degree from the University of Richmond to a starting role as an Analyst covering freight transportation at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Then to intense 12-to-14-hour workdays on top of studying for and passing 3 levels of the CFA by the time I was 25. And ultimately to a Senior Analyst role at Deutsche Bank, by the time I turned 30.

I’ve lived the long hours, the late nights, the crappy takeout, the lack of sleep and exercise, the quarterly earnings calls and grunt work. I’ve built and managed 3-statement financial models with metrics dashboards and valuation calculations.

It’s not easy. But it can also be hugely rewarding. Through personal satisfaction, leadership opportunities, financial rewards…the list is endless.

For me, my financial career took a unique path to a different kind of reward. It began when I pivoted into an entrepreneurial adventure in 2007. I transitioned out of my corporate finance life into a role as a business owner, leveraging my research, writing, and financial analysis skills to write business plans and ultimately resumes.

Resume writing led me to recruiting…and to my role as The Financial Recruiter.

I’m a former financial career professional turned entrepreneur living in Carefree, Arizona with my husband and Goldendoodle, Millie. I love to write and share what I’ve learned over a 25+ year career. When I’m not headhunting or writing, I can be found road tripping and camping around the western United States, traveling abroad to see and learn about every culture under the sun, gardening, or hiking a mountain.
